Lahiri School of Yoga Teacher Training Program

Information & Fees:

New! 230hr Apprenticeship Immersion teacher training track

Our Apprenticeship program is far more focused & detailed than usual, taking the emerging student-teacher beyond the typical 200hr training program.

Asana & Technique: (105 hours)
Our program supplies an in-depth study of each asana (yoga pose), including alignment, benefits & contraindications, counter poses, sequencing, and body mechanics. Learn how to warm up & cool students down; prop usage & modifications; asana assists; and class design, & study the foundations of the following yoga styles: Hatha, Vinyasa, Jivamukti, Pre-Natal, & Restorative Yoga. In some states the following styles will also be offered as electives: Ashtanga, Seniors, Anusara, Corporate, Yoga Therapy, Universal, Partner, and Kripalu. The techniques section additionally covers pranayama, kriyas, meditation, mudras, chanting & Sanskrit, as well as meditation techniques & so much more!

Teaching Methodology: (25 hours)
Whether you’re teaching a multi-level class or special populations, you will teach yoga safely as an LSY graduate. With LSY you will hone your student observation skills & communication; learn how to teach alignment or provide demos; & acquire many keys to maintaining your integrity throughout your tenure as a yoga teacher. Also included is a segment on addressing class & student issues, marketing yourself & your yoga business, as well as bookkeeping, insurance and other business related subjects.

Philosophy & Yoga Lifestyle: (25 hours)
This is one of our favorite sections! Here we help you find simple ways of embodying & living the yoga you teach so it comes across authentically. To support that goal, we discuss the Yoga Sutras, the Pradipika, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Yamas & Niyamas, & the Autobiography of a Yogi. Also included are the doshas & gunas, Ayurveda, chakras, kundalini and the bandhas. Our resident Nutritionist will even help you to understand Nutrition from the Yogic point of view!

Practicum: (20 hours)
Supervised practice teaching and assisting throughout the training reassures the emerging student-teacher that they really have learned all that has been given! Areas of personal strengths and potential weaknesses are studied in this sanctuary we create together; where teaching adjustments are still very easily made. Full participation in these practicums are required to complete the course.
Please note: the amount of hours we offer far exceeds Yoga Alliance requirements. We believe that the additional 10 hours of this Practicum builds greater confidence in you, the blossoming yoga teacher, and as a result, in the students you teach.

Anatomy & Physiology: (20 hours)
Take our Yoga Alliance approved anatomy course during your training from our resident expert for a small extra fee, or choose a local massage school, college, or on-line anatomy course. Transcripts are required to complete the course if taken outside LSY.

Balance of Hours: (35 hours)
You are on your own for this portion of the program! A bit of easy reading, some outside class observations, personal practice, homework questions, an essay & (if taken) the anatomy homework comprise the remaining hours of your training. This section of personal om-work should easily be accomplished over one calendar year from the last day of the Intensive. Please note that 5 additional hours of karma yoga is suggested, but not required to complete the course. This is seva, a simple service that you freely provide to others (organizations, individuals, or groups of your choice).

Application Process:We are looking for those who wish to be apprentices, those who want to go deeper than the average teacher training program. And, since this training track is far more personalized, we hope that existing students & student-friends will apply, while we also joyfully welcome those of you who have studied with a devoted (single) teacher for a while. Please feel free to call or email us if you have any questions and we will be happy to speak with you! Or, click here to move on to the pre-registration form.
